Several people in the past week have posted their stories of how they met and fell in love. It has been asked (demanded!) that I do the same. And as our family is about to grow by one more on Friday, it does seem like a good time to revisit how it all started...
Kevin and I met on spring break of our freshman year. You may have wild visions of partying at the beach, but you should get your mind out of the gutter! :) It was a Harding sponsored trip after all. We were in Duluth,MN on spring break mission trip. I knew who Kevin was before the trip (goofy California guy complete with sun-in bleached, floppy California hair... think 90210). He also knew who I was. He said his impression of me was a snobby girl with long legs. But neither of us had ever really talked to each other before. We were more friends of each other's friends.
Anyways, we got to know each other a little bit while in Minnesota, but mostly we stuck with our own friends. However, for the ride back to Arkansas, we ended up in the same car together, along with one other girl who slept the entire way! (We avoided sleep for the 18 hour drive by drinking a lot of Jolt Cola!) Needless to say, we got to know each other very well. I suppose if you can survive an 18 hour car trip with someone you barely know, that you should take that as some sort of divine sign...
We of course ignored said divine sign for the next 3 years. Instead, we became very close friends, with a few real dates thrown in for good measure. By our junior year, I began to get the whole picture and mentioned that maybe we should start dating. Like any good Harding boy, this sent Kevin running in the opposite direction. He has since learned to accept that I'm always right!!
After we reached our senior year, we were going on at least 3 or 4 non-dates per week. You know, the kind where he says, "let's grab a bite to eat," and after you get there he says, "why don't I just pick up the whole tab." Nothing official to pin him down, but definite almost date material. :)
By our last semester, what had been clear to everyone else for a long time, was finally clear to us too. We had the DTR talk again, and this time Kevin saw the light! Some may have called us a 'senior panic,' but I just prefer to think that we missed all the stupid fights and break-ups that tend to go with long term dating.
We got engaged right after graduation, and then we were married the next spring. After 2 years in Searcy, we moved to Jonesboro and have been here ever since.
If you have actually read my ramblings this far, you probably wish we had some goofy college photo that I could post, but I am way too lazy tonight to scan one in. So instead, you get a goofy picture from last Halloween...
I love you Kevin!!!

Great Story Jenny! One thing I need to have clarified- what is a DTR talk? Is that a Harding term? I know it means something about relationship...It's driving me crazy!
Good Luck Friday!
